As you may know, Jim and Jean Harper are stepping down as the editors of the “SCAN” newsletter which supplies the Shincliffe community with information and news at least twice a year. “SCAN” is published by the Shincliffe Community Association, which aims to provide activities for all ages and inclinations.

By welcoming news items from other bodies serving the Shincliffe Community, Jim and Jean have done a fantastic job at promoting community activities within our village for over twenty years now and it is with great fondness that we must remember all their hard work, time and effort that they have put into the newsletter.

Having said this, it is now time to “pass the torch” so to speak and I am delighted to announce that myself (Stephen Chadwick) and Alison Swarbrick will be the new editors.

We are aiming to publish the 43rd issue of “SCAN” in the second half of November and as such, we ask that if you have any copy that you want to be included in the newsletter, then please send it to us at this email address, no later than October 29th. Alternatively, you can arrange to give it to us in person.

Please bear with us whilst we become acquainted with our new roles as editors and if you have any questions or comments, then please feel free to get in touch with us. Also, please note that copy can be supplied to us either as word processed (digital files) or handwritten (hard copies) and if you have any queries about file formats etc then please ask.

Durham Police Authority has approved the lease for new office accommodation, which will be based at Sherburn Leisure Centre.

Durham Constabulary confirmed that the move to a more central location will provide greater community engagement for the local beat team.

Mr Peter Thompson, Chair of Durham Police Authority said:

“Durham Police Authority continues to welcome opportunities to improve policing within local communities. Moving the local section office to Sherburn Leisure Centre means that beat officers and PCSOs will be centrally located within the community”.

Chief Inspector Colin Williamson of Durham Constabulary said:

“The move will enable us to be based in premises which are more suitable and also more financially sustainable. We hope it will provide easier access to their neighbourhood policing team for local residents.”
